Guilty as Sin (1993)

IMDB rating: 5.40

Plot: A man accused of murdering his wife approaches a hotshot female criminal attorney to take his case. The man is a self-professed womaniser, and his alleged motive would be the large sum of money his wife left him. The attorney begins to have second thoughts about representing him when he starts making it look like they’re having an affair and tells her things she can’t reveal because of lawyer/client privilege, so she starts her own investigation of him, which threatens her career and the safety of her friends and herself.

should Australians of today feel guilty for the sins of the past.?
This is true but
equally today’s Indigenous people should not continue to suffer from past actions
because the nation has not yet found ways to overcome them.
Basic human rights and personal opportunities should be available to all
Australian people regardless of ethnicity. All non-Indigenous Australians benefit
from the dispossession of Indigenous people and so have a responsibility for
addressing the disadvantage and discrimination suffered by Indigenous people.

amazing. someone who gets it!

non natives still reap the benefits..we still pay the costs..but we are the ones who should get over things. that’s not even mentioning the fact that the taking has never ended.

as for guilt? i’m convinced many are incapable of feeling guilty even when they should. i believe that’s called being a psychopath. no conscience. the world is full of them and many have become world leaders not in spite of that condition but because of it.

That could be said for all races, but i guess life doesnt work like that…
Ive forgiven germans for hitler, and the french for rainbow warrior, but … i guess not everyone share the same view.

Their past, or their ancestor’s past?

If the person is a bung and has tried to screw the natives in this life, or stands by silently while others screw over the natives, then yes, he needs to feel guilty, modify his behavior, and make amends.

If the person is a fair and just person and stands up for the rights of the natives in this life, then he should feel no shame for the past. He did not commit those atrocities and he is not the general manager of the universe.

For me, this was one of the last frontiers of fighting racism in my own head (I was raised by racists in the south). I was judging all white folks the same, even me! I never owned a slave or scalped an Indian… I’m a good person and I love all my neighbors, even AS I love myself!
