Pete’s Dragon (1977)

Plot: A young troubled boy named Pete and his guardian dragon Elliott elude the abusive Gogan family, who all use Pete as a slave instead of a loved child. When Pete can successfully run away from them with his dragon, he stumbles into the town of Passamaquaddy- an ocean front harbor town filled with superstitious fishermen, drunken hooligans and wary townsfolk. Pete’s arrival does not mix well with the citizens, as his dragon Elliott accidentally causes town rioting and gossip among the town drunks about the dragon. Expecting to be an outcast yet again, Pete is taken in by the kind Nora who lives in a lighthouse with her father Lampy. While Pete bonds with Nora and Lampy, the townsfolk have not lowered their guards and suspicions about the dragon. And when Dr. Terminus arrives, a phony con artist posing as a doctor, he sees Elliott the Dragon as the ultimate profit to his fame. With Passamaquaddy filled with superstition, greed and lack of imagination, life will not be easy before the town can ever believe Pete’s dragon.

That Darn Cat (1997)

Plot: In a small Massachusetts town, two bumbling criminals mistakenly kidnap a maid, thinking her to be the wife of a prominent businessman. My Gosh this kitten is active!!!?
When we got this kitten.. he was 4 weeks old and had a very poor start to life. We worked very hard at getting him healthy and get his body back into shape. He was bow legged, had a huge belly full of worms and very inactive. We got him fixed as soon as he was of age and got him completely dewormed. Ever since then he has been this huge ball of fiesty energy that doesn’t stop. Everything amuses him, everything is prey. He is in constant hunting mode, which includes us. So many times I hear my mother in law scream in pain and say "AUTUMN! You’re gonna have a dead cat!!" and Cookie bolts into another room… he loves leaping up and digging foreclaws and teeth into any arm hanging at the edge of the chair. Now, in no way I am complaining! He must be feeling pretty darn good about suddenly feeling so much better…. I had once posted about growing pain and someone spit in my face that they don’t and other nasty stuff… well… it really does seem like that because his once bowed legs are now straight. He is getting to a nice size and his belly no longer bloated. I am curious though… anyone have a kitten THIS active and stay active or do they calm down? If he is not sleeping, he’s hunting…. I can’t even pet this cat without him going into instant "Attack and kill" mode.
I need to giggle to the ones that say to scruff him ^___^ Scruffing him gives him excellent close range to your arm for fangs and claws. This cat is unscruffable.
Its probably just so happy that its in good shape. It will probably get over it… soon. It’ll have to run out of energy someday. Don’t hit it or spray it. Just clap your hands really hard when it’s bugging you. It’ll get scared. Clap your hands really loud a lot when its running around and yell "Cookie NOO!!!" It’ll get scared and it’ll stop or if not then pick it up from the scruff (back of the neck where there mothers pick them up from) They calm down when you pick them up from the scruff. Or hold him from the scruff and lay him on his side until he calms down. That’s a good technique as well.

Whenever your cat gets too outta hand and its just too much, hit it. let the cat know whos boss. (and i don’t mean abuse the poor thing, don’t hit it too hard but make sure its enough)

Why is there so much ignorance surrounding the American Pit Bull Terrier?
Back in the 30’s and 40’s my grandfather had several of these dogs on their farm. He always talked about how much he loved his dogs and how wonderful they were.
My friend has a couple of rescue pits and is currently trying to purchase one from Caragan Kennels.
The other day while we were at the park so lady rudely accosted us saying my friends dogs she be euthanized because they were monsters. She was under the impression that because one dog that was supposed an APBT attack her dog, my friends dogs would. However this lady seemed to be blamed to the fact that her little monstrosity (some type of small, shaggy dog) was growling and lunging at my friends dogs who were just laying on the ground.
When did this breed become so feared and misunderstood?
When a dog becomes popular it is often to the determent of the dogs and society as a whole. In your grandfathers time these dogs were popular for many things. They were even used to aid the U.S. during the World Wars. However in the 80’s they started to become popular with gangs along with Rotts, German Shepherds and Dobies. Like any dog, these dogs in the wrong hands have fatal consequences. This coupled with the fact that ignorant backyard breeders refuse to spay and neuter have decided to make a buck of the name and Viola you have yourself a backyard bred mutant with an unstable temperament.
We are currently seeing this happen with Labs. Every single day the amount of Lab attacks increase. One day they will be the breed on the chopping block.
With that being said, I have fostered APBT, Staffies and Amstaffs for years. Some have come from the most horrible situations imaginable yet I have never had one lunge at my face, attack my family or attack strangers.
As with all terriers they do have a very high prey drive and coupled with their strong physique is usually bad news for whatever animal they set their sites on but provided a loving home with a strong leader and strong guidance and you have found yourself a lovable, intelligent, faithful companion.
oh and Alicat no study has ever given any certifiable evidence to prove that is true. That is conjecture at best and a downright malicious lie at worst.

ugh its been in the last like 10 years,they are ignorant because they dont do research and they are close minded,and eat the crap that the media spoon feeds them,its sad really….but then again,if they want to be SO close minded that they cant open themselves to the awesomeness of pit bulls,and give them a chance,they dont deserve them.

Probably when more people started training them to fight, and or didn’t teach them to curb their aggressive nature. I grew up around these dogs, and they were unpredictable more so than other dogs we’ve ever owned. Once you’ve had one lunge at your face for no reason or see them attack other animals that weren’t bothering them you tend to have a lower opinion of them.

I am the one who posed the question about banning the american pit bull from australia, it would appear from what i have ascertained, the trouble lies not with the dog, but with irresponsible owners , for this incorrect assumption on my part, I apologise, it would seem i have done the dog a wrong.

Actually, it has nothing to do with how these dogs are raised, etc. It has to do with the breed itself, because of the way their brains grow. Unfortunately, in this breed of dog, their heads do not grow with their brains in some cases. (In SOME cases!) The brain eventually becomes too large for their skulls, which puts pressure on the brain. When this pressure is applied in a certain spot or in a certain way, the dog "snaps" so-to-speak, and that’s what causes the aggressive behavior- NOT aggression, itself.
So, the people that complain about these dogs aren’t necessarily wrong, just uneducated about why this happens with Pits.

I use to have a Pit, he was the sweetest guy ever, he was weary of some strangers, but other than that he was a big baby.
My neighbor gave me HELL for having him & my uncle told me I was stupid for getting the monster in the first place.
Guess what? My Pit never was a monster, but his Chocolate Lab sure is, the dog is so unstable & vicious it has to be on lock down 24/7.
It started when irresponsible people started getting Pit Bulls.

Can they suspend me from work?
Well, i work at safeway and i have a lot of friends that work there to. I have a habit of saying Hey Hey Hey, like Yogi bear. btw im 20 years old. Well just the other day a heavyset black male was in my checkout line. I greeted the checker saying Hey Hey Hey, i didnt even see the man i honestly didnt notice him. To a further extent i was pulled aside after and told that it was wrong of me to Make a fat albert joke at the man. I didnt even realize, the thought never crossed m mind hell. ive never even seen that cartoon only heard my dad refrence it when i ask what old cartoons did you used to watch.
She then told me i was suspended. I didnt mean to offend the man, but i believe they are trying to fire me. i called my union and will again tomorrow but do they have the right? :/
i was totally ignorant to what i was saying… I have a genetic disability called CPT2 and i know what its liked to be mad fun of. i personally hate it but ive worked there for a year and a half why would i do something so stupid if i had known.
opinions all help is welcomed.

As a union member, with a large company like Safeway, you are subject to a discipline and grievance procedure. That procedure should allow you to challenge any firing or suspension process. The union should provide guidance and help in any disciplinary hearing.
Personally, I would take the tack that you did not intend to use that expression there, you did not intend it as it was taken, and you are very sorry. Accept a short suspension as punishment for making the mistake, but fight outright firing (with the help of the union).
In the future, take more care not to use any sort of ‘comedic’ expression or language with ANY customers present.
Incidentally, Yogi Bear never said ‘hey hey hey’. He sometimes said "Hey hey Booboo". Hey hey hey WAS Fat Albert.

Let me say this. Maybe from this experience you have figured it out. Even professional comedians doing their job run into this. They’re not always aware of who is in the audience, who is watching them who is listening to them. People take things seriously even if it is not intended to be taken that way, off the cuff remarks by which you mean no harm are taken seriously and they are also taken personally even if the person hearing you doesn’t know you or you them and even if there is no question you were talking to someone else they still take it personally.
Yeah they probably do. Probably included for actionable acts are matters of sexual and racial harrassment. Talk to the union let them handle it. That is their job. Have there been other issues in the past? If there have the store will have a stronger case. and if there have been issues affecting you at the store- if it is an area where you can get help- Safeway probably has an Employee Assistance program that will help workers dealer with personal problems that may be affecting their job performance
